2009 COURT JESTERS GAME RECAPS

Game #1 Saturday 4/25/2009
CARDINALS-7 COURT JESTERS-2

The Court Jesters took the field for our first game of the season.  The Jesters were excited and nervous to play.  Our nerves showed in the first inning making some costly errors.  With fellow teammate, Christopher Griffin (sidelined with injury), rooting his team on, the Jesters calmed down and went on to play some good defensive baseball.  In the end the Jesters were foiled by the Cardinals, who came to play, 7-2!

Defensive Highlights:

Dylan Judd:  playing catcher:  2 put outs at the plate & 2 caught stealing.

Vincent Alleva:  cleanly fielding a well hit ball deep in the hole to second.

Shane Duffy, Tyler Judd and Joe DeNovellis:  almost executing a perfect rundown.

Well played outfield by Joe Aebly, Justin Caracciolo, Paul Comuniello, John Piecora & Joe Rogers.

Pitching:

Tyler Judd:  2 2/3 innings pitched, 4 K’s, 4 BB’s & 3 earned runs.

Andrew Femminella:  2 1/3 innings pitched, 5 K’s, 2 earned runs, 1 BB

Dylan Judd:  1 inning pitched, 2 K’s & 0 Runs & 0 BB’s, with a total of 11 pitches.

Offensive Highlights:

Joe “Ropes” DeNovellis:  2-2, HR & Single.  Way to give it all you got, running around those bases!

John Piecora:  1-2, nice 3rd inning base hit & Stolen Base!

Jesters, we are all proud of you.

Remember, this was our first game and we’ll get them next time.  You’re not playing baseball if you’re not having fun!

Game #2 Thursday 4/30/2009

With the cold winds blowing in off the water at Shell Creek Park, the Court Jesters played their home team rival, the Island Park Bashers. The Jesters and Bashers battled it out and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.

1st Inning Highlights

Pitcher, Ryan Sandberg debuting with the Court Jesters, began with 2 strikeouts and a 1 walk. The catcher, Dylan Judd, soon after threw out the runner attempting to steal 2nd base. Tyler Judd got the team going with a single & by stealing 2nd base. Sandberg & Joe DeNovellis walked to load the bases. D. Judd lined a single up the middle scoring T. Judd & Sandberg. John Piecora, patient as always, walked.

2nd Inning Highlights

Sandberg, still pitching strong, struck out 3 batters and walked one. Thomas Rutherig led off the inning with a hard hit double. Joe Rogers then hustled down the line after hitting the ball to the pitcher & was called safe on a dropped ball by the 1st baseman. This is why we run everything out. Vincent Alleva stepped in the box & roped a line drive but was robbed of a hit by a nice catch by the Basher’s 1st baseman.

3rd Inning Highlights

Sandberg struck out the first batter and was relieved for pitch count purposes after the Bashers got on base with an error. D. Judd struck out the first batter he faced, gave up two quick walks but calmed down & caught a pop up to the mound. Andrew Feminella led off with a single but was caught stealing on an ill advised decision by the head coach, Carl Judd. T. Judd followed it up with a double to centerfield. The Jesters manufactured a run with T. Judd stealing 3rd & Shane Duffy hitting an R.B.I. single.

4th Inning Highlights

The Bashers led off with back to back singles, scoring one base runner. But the Jesters made some fielding errors that enabled the other runner to score. The Jesters settled down once again and D. Judd struck out the next 3 batters. Patient plate appearances by Joe Aebly, Rutherig & Rogers all produced walks.

5th Inning Highlights

D. Judd began with two quick strike outs & then cleanly fielded a grounder to the mound over to Feminella at 1st base to have a 1-2-3 inning.

6th Inning Highlights

With DeNovellis in relief, the Bashers started it off with a walk & a single through the 2nd base hole, scoring the runner. During the play, the Jesters made another fielding error which let the hitter advance to 3rd base. The next batter hit a deep pop up to SS, T. Judd, who made a nice catch. The runner attempted to tag up at home. The catcher, Sandberg received a strike from the SS, stood his ground & tagged out the runner sliding into home. That’s the way you protect the plate! The Jesters hoping to break the tie, led off with a single by Duffy, who later stole 2nd base. Sandberg hit a shot into the wind to right center but it was caught by the Bashers. DeNovellis walked and Duffy was caught stealing 3rd base on a questionable call by the ump. Up to their final out, D. Judd hit a hard grounder to the 3rd baseman who threw him out at 1st base.

Aebly, Justin Caracciolo, Paul Comuniello, DeNovellis, Christopher Griffin, Piecora, Rogers and Rutherig gave a nice defensive performance in the outfield.

Jesters we earned our first point of the season! Let’s shoot for the win next time. We are proud as of you as always!

Jesters, we had 10 hits and 14 runs scored in this game compared to 13 hits and 7 runs for 3 games combined. Let’s build on this and play at this level all the time.

Great Job Jesters………We’re Proud of You All!

Game #5 Monday 5/18/2009

The Court Jesters and the Bashers faced each other for the second time of the season. Once again, it was another good defensive baseball game. Pitchers from both teams came to play, limiting a total of three hits and 27 strikeouts between the two teams combined.

Ryan Sandberg started as pitcher for the Jesters and pitched another great game, 11 stikeouts and 1 hit over 4 2/3rds innings. The Bashers threatened to score early in the first inning. With a one out and a runner, Sandberg got the next batter to strike out and the following batter to hit a groundball to the mound which was thrown over to the 1st baseman, Andrew Feminella, for the out.

In the top of the 4th inning, Vincent Alleva patiently led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Tyler Judd stepped to the plate looking to bring Alleva home. With 2 outs and the the count full, T. Judd hit a 2 run homerun to right center getting the Jesters on the board. The Bashers threatened to score in the same inning with a hard hot ball to left centerfield. John Piecora quickly fielded the ball and got it in to the cut-off man, limiting the hitter to a double. Sandberg settled down and struck out the next three batters. T. Judd came into relieve Sandberg with 2 outs in the 5th inning and closed the game not allowing a base runner. Good Job! Let’s Keep Rolling Forward

Game #6 Friday 5/22/2009

It was the start of the Memorial Day Weekend and the Oceanside Mets came to Shell Creek Park to play the Island Park Court Jesters. The Mets jumped to an early lead by scoring 7 runs in the first two innings and held the Jesters scoreless for three innings. In the 3rd inning, the Jesters brought in Dylan Judd to relieve his brother Tyler and a whole new game began. The first batter that Dylan faced smoked a hard hit ball down the 3rd base line. Shane Duffy made a beautiful grab and threw over to the 1st basemen, Andrew Feminella, for the out. After walking the next batter, D. Judd would shut the door on the Mets by striking out 11 batters, allowing only 2 hits, walking only 1 batter and not allowing a run over the next four innings. With fellow teammate Christopher Griffin getting the Jesters motivated, they meshed together and slowly chipped away at the Mets lead. Game #10Sunday 5/31/2009

The Island Park Court Jesters traveled to Oceanside to play the Oceanside A’s at Wright’s Field on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The Jesters were aiming to win with hopes of keeping Coach Carl Judd to his promise made 2 weeks ago to shave his head bald if the team won 7 straight games. The Jesters got on the board first in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a 2-0 lead and added two more runs in the 4th inning. Ryan Sandberg had another great outing at pitcher, allowing just 3 hits, striking out 10 with an unearned run thru 4 innings of work. Dylan Judd came in for relief in the 5th inning struck out the first batter. He then gave up a single to the next batter who tried to stretch it to a double. Joseph Aebly cleanly fielded the ball and came up throwing. Aebly gunned the ball to the cut off man, Vincent Alleva, who relayed the throw to Tyler Judd, covering 2nd base, to place the tag for the second out. With 2 outs, the A’s capitalized on some costly errors and scored three unearned runs to tie the game 4-4. In the bottom of the inning, the Jesters were determined to regain the lead. T. Judd led off and flew out to deep right centerfield. After battling a full count, Andrew Feminella singled to right centerfield and stole second on the very next pitch to set the plate for Sandberg. Sandberg, gaining his second hit of the day, roped a double to centerfield scoring Feminella. The Jesters would end the inning leading, 5-4. Pitching in relief for the save, T. Judd would face the heart of the order. The first batter for the A’s hit a rocket to the ever so ready 3rd baseman, Shane Duffy, who threw over to 1st base for the out. The second batter hit a grounder to the mound and was thrown out at first. The A’s were down to their final out and T. Judd got the batter to pop up in foul territory and Feminella would catch the final out for the Jesters’ victory 5-4. With a chair in place by the concession stand, the Jesters and fans cheered for Coach Carl to keep his promise. Toni Alleva, with buzzer in hand, shaved Coach Carl’shead bald.

Court Jesters we accomplished half of our goal set after yesterday’s game by bringing our bats to today’s game. We generated 10 hits and 10 runs. However, we made too many errors and we need to remain focused for all 6 innings. I know we have it in us to get back on track and winning. We finished 7-4-1 and finished in 2nd place in a 7 team division. That is a big accomplishment! I believe we can rebound from these last two losses and succeed in the post season. All of you need to believe that too! Pick your heads up and keep them high at all times because all of you are a class act! What’s the saying I’ve heard all season long?

Oh yeah, I remember…………………………….
