2009 COURT JESTERS GAME RECAPS
The Court Jesters took the field for our first game of the season. The Jesters were excited and nervous to play. Our nerves showed in the first inning making some costly errors. With fellow teammate, Christopher Griffin (sidelined with injury), rooting his team on, the Jesters calmed down and went on to play some good defensive baseball. In the end the Jesters were foiled by the Cardinals, who came to play, 7-2! Defensive Highlights: Dylan Judd: playing catcher: 2 put outs at the plate & 2 caught stealing.
Vincent Alleva: cleanly fielding a well hit ball deep in the hole to second. Shane Duffy, Tyler Judd and Joe DeNovellis: almost executing a perfect rundown. Well played outfield by Joe Aebly, Justin Caracciolo, Paul Comuniello, John Piecora & Joe Rogers. Pitching: Tyler Judd: 2 2/3 innings pitched, 4 K’s, 4 BB’s & 3 earned runs. Andrew Femminella: 2 1/3 innings pitched, 5 K’s, 2 earned runs, 1 BB Dylan Judd: 1 inning pitched, 2 K’s & 0 Runs & 0 BB’s, with a total of 11 pitches. Offensive Highlights: Joe “Ropes” DeNovellis: 2-2, HR & Single. Way to give it all you got, running around those bases! John Piecora: 1-2, nice 3rd inning base hit & Stolen Base! Jesters, we are all proud of you. Remember, this was our first game and we’ll get them next time. You’re not playing baseball if you’re not having fun!
With the cold winds blowing in off the water at Shell Creek Park, the Court Jesters played their home team rival, the Island Park Bashers. The Jesters and Bashers battled it out and the game ended in a 3-3 tie. 1st Inning Highlights Pitcher, Ryan Sandberg debuting with the Court Jesters, began with 2 strikeouts and a 1 walk. The catcher, Dylan Judd, soon after threw out the runner attempting to steal 2nd base. Tyler Judd got the team going with a single & by stealing 2nd base. Sandberg & Joe DeNovellis walked to load the bases. D. Judd lined a single up the middle scoring T. Judd & Sandberg. John Piecora, patient as always, walked. 2nd Inning Highlights Sandberg, still pitching strong, struck out 3 batters and walked one. Thomas Rutherig led off the inning with a hard hit double. Joe Rogers then hustled down the line after hitting the ball to the pitcher & was called safe on a dropped ball by the 1st baseman. This is why we run everything out. Vincent Alleva stepped in the box & roped a line drive but was robbed of a hit by a nice catch by the Basher’s 1st baseman. 3rd Inning Highlights Sandberg struck out the first batter and was relieved for pitch count purposes after the Bashers got on base with an error. D. Judd struck out the first batter he faced, gave up two quick walks but calmed down & caught a pop up to the mound. Andrew Feminella led off with a single but was caught stealing on an ill advised decision by the head coach, Carl Judd. T. Judd followed it up with a double to centerfield. The Jesters manufactured a run with T. Judd stealing 3rd & Shane Duffy hitting an R.B.I. single. 4th Inning Highlights
The Bashers led off with back to back singles, scoring one base runner. But the Jesters made some fielding errors that enabled the other runner to score. The Jesters settled down once again and D. Judd struck out the next 3 batters. Patient plate appearances by Joe Aebly, Rutherig & Rogers all produced walks. 5th Inning Highlights D. Judd began with two quick strike outs & then cleanly fielded a grounder to the mound over to Feminella at 1st base to have a 1-2-3 inning. 6th Inning Highlights With DeNovellis in relief, the Bashers started it off with a walk & a single through the 2nd base hole, scoring the runner. During the play, the Jesters made another fielding error which let the hitter advance to 3rd base. The next batter hit a deep pop up to SS, T. Judd, who made a nice catch. The runner attempted to tag up at home. The catcher, Sandberg received a strike from the SS, stood his ground & tagged out the runner sliding into home. That’s the way you protect the plate! The Jesters hoping to break the tie, led off with a single by Duffy, who later stole 2nd base. Sandberg hit a shot into the wind to right center but it was caught by the Bashers. DeNovellis walked and Duffy was caught stealing 3rd base on a questionable call by the ump. Up to their final out, D. Judd hit a hard grounder to the 3rd baseman who threw him out at 1st base. Aebly, Justin Caracciolo, Paul Comuniello, DeNovellis, Christopher Griffin, Piecora, Rogers and Rutherig gave a nice defensive performance in the outfield. It was the start of the Memorial Day Weekend and the Oceanside Mets came to Shell Creek Park to play the Island Park Court Jesters. Tyler Judd started at pitcher for the Court Jesters and the Mets brought their bats and arms. The Mets jumped to an early lead by scoring 7 runs in the first two innings and held the Jesters scoreless for three innings. In the 3rd inning, the Jesters brought in Dylan Judd to relieve his brother Tyler and a whole new game began. The first batter that Dylan faced smoked a hard hit ball down the 3rd base line. territory and Feminella
