Beware of the Bear!
2009 BEARS GAME RECAPS

Game #1 Sunday 10/4/2009

The "Monsters of the Midway" opened their 2009 season at Frank LaMagna Stadium against the Jets
who dealt the Bears a 16-2 loss on what was otherwise a beautiful summer like afternoon in October!
The Bears offense put together a couple good slow drives on the day, but we always seemed to stagnate against the tough Jet D. QB Nick Barlanti did a great job engineering the offense and he threw a couple of nice passes as well, showing that there will be some very exciting Bear football to come! RB Lex Pinkiert and FB Tommy Russo ran into a very solid Jet D all day and fought hard for every yard they gained. The offensive line, for the most part did a decent job against a good defense including Brett Igoe, Bryan McNally, and James Finnerty. But the Bears offense committed several costly penalties, had an unfortunate tipped INT (Way to go King!), lost an early fumble, and had a costly fumble in the red zone after another good drive. We will improve!!!
Punter Blake Igoe did a terrific job on the day!

The defense did an excellent job against the Jets for 58 minutes of the 60 minute game! 2 BIG TD runs by Bobby Stewart accounted for the scoring. Limiting the potent Jet offense was a VERY tough assignment on opening day, but the Bears defense did a decent job. Mark Visconti, Michael Grasso, Matt Kear, Aidan Kirschner and Robert Gargano led the way! Rookies Steven Pallidino, Sean Clerici, Brendan Fisk, Brandon Champagne, Dean Lupowitz and Desmond Smith all did well in their Stallion's debuts. Joe Capobianco, Michael Wohgelmuth, Tristan Bocchi, Cody Lundenberg and Francisco Zuart also did a great job against the Jets!

Game ball winners were: Nick Barlanti and Mark Visconti!

We've got a lot of work to do boys! Saturday 10:00AM SHARP!!!!!!
Check out this video before you come to practice, to get you in the right frame of mind:

Congrats to Jets Coach Mike Selover for winning his first Senior Division game, and to all of his coaches and his boys for playing such a good game! See you in 3 weeks!

Game #2 Sunday 10/11/2009

The Bears obviously watched the Dick Butkus video above because their defense came out of the gate playing like Mr. Butkus! A dramatic improvement on defense secured their first victory of the season over the Redskins by a 14-6 score, despite being a game that saw an incredible 11 turnovers by BOTH teams! It was an exciting game of give and take and the Bear's offense took charge when needed, as they punched the ball into the end zone twice on the day. The offensive line of Blake Igoe, Desmond Smith, Robert Gargano, Brett Igoe, Matt Kear, James Finnerty and Mike Grasso did battle in trenches all day, opening holes and holding their blocks until the whistle! QB Nick Barlanti, FB Tommy Russo, RB Lex Pinkiert, RB Mark Visconti and RB Aidan Kirschner led the strong ground attack, diving, blasting and sweeping for several long drives and scoring 2 Bear TD's on the day! K Blake Igoe booted a PAT as well and had several good punts including a monster 60+ yarder!!! On defense, Tristan Bocchi, Bryan McNally, Dean Lupowitz, Sean Clerici, Joe Capobianco, Francisco Zuart, Brandon Champagne, Cody Lundenburg, and Steven Palladino all stepped up and thwarted the Redskins ground attack all day! Both the Skins and the Bears, excluding the turnovers, showed great improvements on defense, and played an exciting game for their fans! Next week the Bears face the powerful undefeated Giants who surely test any defense they face!

Saturday we work, Sunday we play!!
Nice job Bears!

Game ball winners were: Blake Igoe and Tommy Russo!

Great news that Jets QB Nick Mari is OK! Hope to see you back on the field soon!

Game #3 Sunday 10/18/2009

The Bears battled the elements and the powerhouse Giants at Frank LaMagna stadium on Sunday with 6-7 crazy fans watching on this blustery October day! The nasty rain, cold and wind controlled both team's offenses, but the Giants came away with the 8-0 victory. It was a defensive battle from the start. The Bear's offense started the game off with a nice drive, picking up a couple first downs, but then they hit a brickwall in the Giant defense! The team doctor was quickly called onto the Bear's sidelines in the 1st QTR as several of the Bear RB's were diagnosed with the wild SDTFB disease! The symptom of the disease is an uncontrollable dropping of the football! Out of nowhere, the neurological disorder strikes it's victim, causing him to drop the pigskin time and time again! It is unstoppable! The CDC and scientist's around the world are working hard on a cure!

Coach Pat actually sprinkled real pyramid dust from the Pyramid of Khufu in Giza, Egypt over hs offensive unit in
an attempt to exorcise the demons that have infected his troops. The second half was a little better for the Bears. In fact, the disease seemed to have spread over to the Giant's sidelines, as they too began to show signs of the dreaded malady!

As for the game, the Butkus and Urlacher defenses did a good job containing the potent G-Man offense! Let's hope for better results next week against the Airmen in Green and certainly better weather!!!

Game #4 Sunday 10/25/2009

Da' Bears had their wishes granted, and not only got MUCH better weather, but managed to get back on the winning track with a solid victory over the Jets.
And they did so WITHOUT A SINGLE FUMBLE!!!!!
Pharaoh Khufu was watching over the Bear's offense as they put on a clinic about ball control and field position. The offensive line of Blake Igoe, Brett Igoe, Desmond Smith, Mike Grasso, James Finnerty, Robert Gargano and Matt Kear controlled the line of scrimmage and opened the holes for their backs all day and quite literally won the game for the Bears today! It was a total team effort with QB Nick Barlanti steering the ship with flawless execution, a BIG 1st down pass, and a nice sweep for a TD late in the game. The offense controlled the ball most of the game and engineered 3 long, "precious" time eating drives. RB Lex Pinkiert and FB Tommy Russo (TD) both had their best days of the season so far, following their blockers RB Mark Visconti and Aidan Kirschner, fighting for every yard against a tough Jet defense! K Blake Igoe had another great day with the toe, delivering 2 PAT's and a beautiful 30+ yd Field Goal! When the offensive line wasn't controlling the game, the Urlacher and Butkus defenses were! Sean Clerici, Cody Lundenburg, Brandon Fisk, "Hollywood" Champagne, Tristan Bocchi, Steven Palladino, Joe Capobianco, Dean Lupowitz and Brian McNally all chipped in on defense, stopping a very potent Jet offense! DE Mike Wohglemuth and DT Francisco Zuart both had their best games this season! Next week it's the Indians, who will certainly be looking for a few Bear skins to hang in their teepees!!! And did I hear something about a cheerleader coming to our game next week??????

Nice job by all today! Keep working hard!!!

Game #5 Sunday 11/1/2009

Despite the distraction of a beautiful cheerleader roaming the sidelines for their game against the Redskins, the Bears picked up where they left off last week and scalped the Indians with a nice display of offense! Once again the offensive line of Blake Igoe, Brett Igoe, Desmond Smith, Mike Grasso, James Finnerty, Robert Gargano and Matt Kear dominated in the trenches and played traffic cop today, directing QB Nick Barlanti, FB Tommy Russo, RB Lex Pinkiert, RB Mark Visconti and RB Aidan Kirschner all day, opening lanes all day. The defenses once again did a terrific job with Sean Clerici, Cody Lundenburg, Brandon Fisk, Andrew McDougal, "Hollywood" Champagne, Tristan Bocchi, Steven Palladino, Joe Capobianco, Dean Lupowitz,Brian McNally, Mike Wohglemuth and Francisco Zuart all making plays and stopping the Skins dangerous offense. Next week the Bears face Big Blue, always a daunting task!!!

Game #6 Sunday 11/8/2009

The Bears traveled to Giants Stadium today for their last chance to unseat the Mighty Giants from the ranks of the undefeated and came up a couple plays shy! In what was a SOLID defensive game on both sides, the Bears kept the JT train in check until late in the 3rd QTR when the Giants struck paydirt. The Bears offense struggled against the TOUGH Giant D, but they got solid play from backup QB Aidan Kirschner who filled in admirably! The entire game consists of 48 minutes. You can play outstanding football for 46 of them, but a missed play here or a missed tackle there can be the difference between winning or losing! All 24 Bears played like champions today against what is a VERY solid, talented, well coached Giants team!

Game #7 Sunday 11/15/2009

The Bears and Jets played the rubber match of their 2009 season and they walked away with an exciting 0-0 tie game! The Jets brought an air attack that was relentless and were one play away from opening up the game throughout the entire contest! The Bears defense answered the call and nearly pulled out the game, with 15 seconds remaining, with an interception by CB Tommy Russo, who ran the ball back 80 yds to the 10 yd line! A game saving tackle by the Jets defense sealed the tie game and made BOTH teams Champions on the day!
