HEAD COACH: DAVE SCHWEITZMAN ASST.COACH: VINNIE RUGGIERI
PLAYERS:
It was a beautiful day for the opening
game of the 2009 season. The visiting Bucs were eager
to face the Bengals in this much anticipated match up as their
only three losses last year came to the Bengals in which
each game came down to the last possession. The game started
on a very good note for the Bucs who won the coin toss and chose to
receive the ball to start the game. The Bucs' offense looked
great as they drove the length of the field to score on their opening
drive. Their offense was clicking as the Bucs possessed the
ball for the entire first quarter. Dean Keener
led the Bucs' attack at quarterback, running a picture perfect drive
that culminated in a 5 yard TD run by the field general himself.
The offensive line of Anthony Romeo, Julian Hosty, Nick
Rossiello, George Smith, Matt Champagne, Freddy Ormeno and Colin
Johnston played exceptionally well, opening up some big holes
for running backs Joseph "Joe Joe" Ruggieri, Mikey Barlanti
and Justin Denni. The defense struggled a bit
as the Bengals' scored on their first play from scrimmage. They
settled down after that and made some spectacular plays, with a number
of tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Even though the Bucs
would lose the game, they made a very nice showing and should be proud
of their efforts considering their league leading 17 rookies. You
tried hard and that's all we could ask of you.
Remember that attending practice is the only way to improve each week. Good job boys.
It was a cold and damp day as the
Bucs took on the Chargers in this highly anticipated match
up. The bucs were without their starting running back
Mikey Barlanti due to flu like symptoms. Nick Platia
did an admirable job for the first time running with only one practice
under his belt. The Bucs got on the board early and often
scoring on 2 of their first 3 possessions. Both touchdowns
were scored by quarterback Dean Keener with great
blocks by his line of Anthony Romeo, Julian Hosty, George
Smith, Matt Champagne, Collin Johnston, Nick Rossiello and
back up Jamie Dolan who dominated his man all day.
JoJo Ruggieri was the Bucs work horse as he carried
the ball 15 times for about 80 yards. Justin Denni
also contributed to the offense. The Bucs defense pretty
much shut down the Charger offense all day with great tackling by
Andrew Woram, Patrick Hickey, Eric Maisch and Jack Williams.
The defensive line of Anthony Romeo, Collin Johnston, Sean
Woram, Julian Hosty, Jamie Dolan and Nick Rossiello won
the battle in trenches making a number of tackles for losses.
Congratulations on your first win of the season. Coaches Dave,
Vinny and Rick are proud of your hard work in practice and in the
game. Remember to always play fair and respect your opponent.
Next up, the big rematch against the Bengals.
It's already Week #5 and the Saints and
the Bucs are paired in a rematch of 2 Southern division rivals.
The Saints won the coin toss and put a scare into the Bucs making
a number of long runs which got them down to the red zone. The
Bucs, however, rose to the occasion and stopped the Saints on 4 straight
plays in which the Saints ended up with worse field position than
when they started. From that point on the Bucs showed that their
tough practices would finally pay off. They scored on a long
run from QB Dean Keener, and never looked back. The Bucs
defensive line of Anthony Romeo, Freddy Ormeno, Nick Rossiello,
Collin Johnston, Sean Woram, Julian Hosty, and Jamie Dolan completely
shut down the undersized Saint offense for nearly the rest of the
game. After an all around performance by running back and back up
quarter back Joe Joe Ruggieri in which he powered the offense
to a 300 total yard day the Bucs would again find the end zone with
a 10 yard scamper by Mikey Barlanti. Ruggieri's power
runs, along with his completions to Anthony Romeo and Colin Johnston
made up at least half of the Bucs offense. The Bucs also had
a record day with 3 interceptions from Nick Platia, Sean
Woram and Nick Rossiello. Each player made a contribution today
including Jack Williams, Patrick Hickey, Justin Denni, Anthony
Parella, Andrew Woram, George Smith and Matthew Champagne.
Props to Patrick Hickey and Anthony Parella for their contribution
to the offense with their first time carrying the ball. Great
job boys. You've come a long way and we, the coaches and your
parents are proud of you.
